Movie 42

Today in class, we finished watching the movie 42. In the movie they played baseball. In 1946, Branch Hickey, legendary manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, defies major league baseball's notorious color barrier by signing Jackie Robinson to the team. His old team the was the Monarchs. The team was all white men, even on the other teams. The other teams disliked Jackie because he was a black man. Jackie showed them that anyone can play baseball and other people should let blacks play too. The heroic act puts both Rickey and Robinson in the firing line of the public, the press and other players. Facing open racism from all sides, Robinson demonstrates true courage and admirable restrain by not reacting in kind and lets his undeniable talent silence the critics for him. I thought it was messed up that people didn't want blacks to play baseball. Most people who were white hated Jackie. I liked it when Jackie didn't let the words hurt him, and when people on Jackie's team were nice to him. A couple of things i disliked was the racism and how one of the baseball players threw the ball as hard as he could at Jackie's face, and how nobody accepted him or his team anywhere because he was black. Another one i disliked was when a little boy called Jackie a Ni****. If Jackie or any other black man were to play baseball now on a team with white people nothing would happen because it's supposed to be fair.
