"coco what should i do about these annoying men?"
Coco suggested she should have a contest to find out who is the best one.
"That idea is good coco i'm glad i have you as my advisor, i dont know what i would do without you.
Later that day, Penelope announced the trial to the court.

The Dog is Lazy

On a lazy Sunday, The dog was laying on the front of the door, on the carpet, refusing orders half asleep not knowing what to do, bored out of his mind.

Book Review

The book is about a young boy who is named Ishmael Beah, he goes to war and faces many problems as time passes, like when his parents die, and why he goes to war. I think the authors purpose for writing the book is to be ready for anything and to know what to do if anything were to happen, and what to prevent. No, the book isn't relateable to someone my age that i know. None of my friends have been at war. I've read many other books like To Kill a Mockingbird, and it also has like fighting in it and the book i read has fighting/violence. I think the author of the book is a very good writer from the way he explains things in the book. This book is useful because you never know what will happen.

Join The Conversation

A theme this book has is sadness. Ishmael Beah's parents passed away. It's like a family member passing away which sucks. My aunt passed away a couple years ago and it made me sad. Many people get sad from family or very well known people pass away.

Teen Culture-Body Image

Honestly, i think looks do not matter. Other people thinks they do because it looks good and they want people to think they look good rather than ugly. People spend so much money for 1 piece of clothes just took look good, When they could get 5 pieces of clothes for way less. If people look ugly they think others will make fun of them, some people may but others won't. A lot of teens see the magazines where girls are really "hot", and those teens want to be hot like the models on the magazines. Teens look at their bodies and compare them to the models on the magazines (which are obviously photoshopped) but those teens don't focus on the photoshop because all their thinking about is how ugly their bodies are. Those teens are influenced to try to become pretty, teens do horrible things to be skinny. They go on about how ugly they are telling their friends. I know that if you say you can become skinny you will be skinny but with hard work not by force throwing up, but if you say u can't you lower your self esteem which is bad and it puts you in the throw up situation. Some girls are born like models, others aren't but i think beauty doesn't really matter because nobody's perfect.

A Long Way Gone
Ishmael Beah

I would love this quote because there is a war going on and it would be nice to have everyone be nice to each other and not be mad and fight.  I would love to have peace. I agree with the quote because because there is a conflict in my story so i would like to handle this conflict peacefully. So far there are no signs of peace because there is a huge war going on and i have to fight in it.

Lit Circle Reflection

Currently in the book Ishmael wants peace and he wants the war to stop, he also wants to find his family. Ishmael thinks that people shouldn't be killed and they didn't do anything. So far, I am currently enjoying the book because of the adventure and the things that he goes through but overall i think the book is great, it is exciting for me. This has a real life connection to me because he wants to find his family, and one day i was at the store i got lost and i wanted to find my parents (I eventually found them). Something that surprised me was that when he found out his town was attacked. This book is a true story.

How would you feel if you were in Ishmael Beah's shoes?
Would you Fight or Flee?

Teen Culture/Beach Body

This video says a lot about teen and American culture. Almost all of America judges themselves based on how they look, especially guys because they want to have a six pack and impress girls. The culture explains the way they look at themselves, which makes them lose self esteem. I think the best way to conquer low self esteem is to not be afraid, to not care whats others think, and to be proud of yourself and who you are. Not everyone has to be healthy to have a beach body, they can eat as much junk food as they want but they can work out and burn those calories. My definition for being healthy is staying fit, eating right and no junk food. Most people do struggle with insecurity because they do not want others making fun of them, they want to look good and have a "beach body". People should be more proud of themselves and not worry about what others think.

Indirect Characterization & Culture

A Long Way Gone is the true story of Ishmael Beah, who becomes an unwilling boy soldier during a civil war in Sierra Leone.  When he is twelve years old, Ishmael's village is attacked while he is away performing in a rap group with friends. Among the confusion, violence, and uncertainty of the war, Ishmael, his brother, and his friends wander from village to village in search of food and shelter. Their day to day existence is a struggle of survival, and the boys find themselves committing acts they would never have believed themselves capable of, such as stealing food from children. Eventually, Ishmael is conscripted as a soldier by the army and he becomes the very thing he feared, a killing machine capable of horrible violence. The army becomes his family and he is brainwashed into believing that each rebel death may avenge his own family's slaughter. The boy soldiers become addicted to cocaine, marijuana, and "brown brown," which gives them the courage to fight and the ability to repress their emotions in times of war.

Lit Circle Reflection-A Long Way Gone (Memoirs of a Boy Soldier)

The book i am currently reading is called A Long Way Gone. I currently am enjoying the book because of how old the kid is and the type of things that he does. Something that stood out for me was that the kid was brave. Something that surprised me was the book is actually a memoir, and the book is about the life of the author. A question i'd like to ask the author is how long did it take to write his book. The book is like a connection to real life because it's harsh the way he is living and it was probably worse back then in the old days.

Culture/Traditions of TKAM

In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, The novel takes place in Alabama in the 1930's and tells a story about a lawyer who defends a wrongly accused black man while trying to raise his two children, Scout and Jem, as they go through life's most active learning stage. Southern ways to enhance the plot of the story and give a realistic and historic perspective to the book. This portrayal of Southern culture appears in various forms of racism, hatred, meek women, and family. The Southern women were told and obligated, by some code of southern conduct, to mature into fair-smelling, perfect ladies. by ladies they meant women who were well mannered, good at embroidery, and wore frilly, lacy dresses. One example of this southern tradition occurs when Aunt Alexandra come to the finch residence to help Atticus raise his children during the trial. When first arriving she says to Scout, "We decided that it would be best for you to have some feminine influence. It won't be many years, Jean Louis, before you become interested in clothes and boys. Aunt Alexandra makes no mention of Jean Louis's intelligence, education, or personality. Her diction suggests that the only thing Jean Louis is capable of pursuing is her attire and a man. Those are some Culture/Traditions of the book To Kill a Mockingbird.

Movie 42

Today in class, we finished watching the movie 42. In the movie they played baseball. In 1946, Branch Hickey, legendary manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, defies major league baseball's notorious color barrier by signing Jackie Robinson to the team. His old team the was the Monarchs. The team was all white men, even on the other teams. The other teams disliked Jackie because he was a black man. Jackie showed them that anyone can play baseball and other people should let blacks play too. The heroic act puts both Rickey and Robinson in the firing line of the public, the press and other players. Facing open racism from all sides, Robinson demonstrates true courage and admirable restrain by not reacting in kind and lets his undeniable talent silence the critics for him. I thought it was messed up that people didn't want blacks to play baseball. Most people who were white hated Jackie. I liked it when Jackie didn't let the words hurt him, and when people on Jackie's team were nice to him. A couple of things i disliked was the racism and how one of the baseball players threw the ball as hard as he could at Jackie's face, and how nobody accepted him or his team anywhere because he was black. Another one i disliked was when a little boy called Jackie a Ni****. If Jackie or any other black man were to play baseball now on a team with white people nothing would happen because it's supposed to be fair.
